Cristina's path into dance education wasn't traditional. She
grew up in Coimbra and studied Physical Education at the
University of Coimbra, where she developed a passion for
movement and wellness. But it wasn't until 2010 that she noticed
something important: there weren't many places where adults over
45 could learn social dance in a welcoming, beginner-friendly
way.
So she changed direction. After completing her degree, Cristina
pursued formal training in Latin social dances — bachata and
salsa — while also studying traditional Portuguese folk styles.
She discovered that older learners didn't need the same teaching
approach as younger students. They brought life experience,
patience, and different motivations. They wanted to enjoy
themselves, not become professionals. That insight became the
foundation of her work.
Over the past 14 years, she's worked with dance studios across
Coimbra, Braga, and Porto, helping develop curricula
specifically designed for mature beginners. She completed
advanced certifications in adult dance pedagogy and senior
fitness through the Instituto Português de Dança in Lisbon.
Along the way, she's trained over 2,000 senior students and
mentored numerous instructors in teaching techniques that work
for older learners.
What Cristina's noticed consistently: dancing changes things.
She's watched students gain confidence, improve their balance,
build genuine friendships, and discover a sense of joy they
didn't expect. It's not about becoming a good dancer. It's about
moving, connecting, and feeling alive. That's what drives her
work at kingyinli Ltd — translating her real-world experience
into honest, practical guidance for readers considering their
first dance class.
